Bug Prentice

‘EP’ out now

Our new EP is out now. You can listen for free on bandcamp, or pay for a download if you’re feeling fancy. All money goes towards future Bug Prentice / Ally Craig recordings.

The songs are as follows:

  1. Couldn’t Tell You
Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
  2. Lee Miller
Inspired by model-turned-artist Lee Miller*, her turbulent relationship with Man Ray, her traumatic career as a war photographer, and her subsequent retirement in the English countryside.
(*not to be confused with Trainspotter-turned-Sherlock, Jonny Lee Miller.)
  3. Naamloos
Instrumental. Naamloos is Dutch for “nameless”, i.e. untitled. I know this despite not speaking Dutch.
  4. Don’t Be That Dude
A message to dudes everywhere: If you are a dude, please don’t be THAT dude.
  5. Sally Six
Instrumental. A tribute to “The Sixth Sally, or How Trurl and Klapaucius Created a Demon of the Second Kind to Defeat the Pirate Pugg” – a short story from The Cyberiad, by the Polish science fiction author Stanislaw Lem.

The EP features the usual Bug Prentice suspects (Ally Craig, Ruth Goller, Stephen Gilchrist), plus guest cello from Jon Clayton on Naamloos. It was recorded by the aforementioned Jon Clayton at One Cat Studio in Brixton, and was mastered by Mark Cawthra. All songs written by Ally Craig.

The Way It Crumbles – new album out now

Our debut album, The Way It Crumbles, is out now! Stream and download on bandcamp. If you like it, tell your friends. If you hate it, tell your enemies. If you’re indifferent about it, tell the nearest inanimate object.

And if that’s not enough Bug Prentice for you, you can also listen to Ally’s appearance on Oxide Radio’s Beautiful Freaks show, where he shared some of his favourite music and played a song live in the studio.

Single Launch – 12th March 2015 @ The Bullingdon

We are celebrating the release of Nicholas Ray / Spoons with a headlining spot at the Bullingdon in Oxford. Unfortunately Stephen is unavailable for this gig, so Ally and Ruth will be joined on drums by James Maddren. Support acts include David Tudor, with more to be announced. Further info on facebook.

Nicholas Ray music video

Ahead of next month’s download single release, here’s the new music video for Nicholas Ray. It was directed in suitably noir-ish fashion by Liam Martin, starring Shan Sriharan and a cast of Awkward Actors.

We are also reviewed and ‘introduced’ in the March 2015 edition of Oxford’s music paper, Nightshift.

Only A Northern Song

It’s Beatles Day on BBC Oxford, celebrating 50 years since the release of Love Me Do. We were one of five bands invited to record Beatles covers especially for the occasion. If you missed it live on air, here you can listen to Malcolm Boyden interviewing me about the Beatles, followed by our version of George Harrison’s “Only A Northern Song.”

Many thanks to Malcolm, Harry Beer and everyone at BBC Oxford for your warm, enthusiastic welcome.

Vortex videos

Many thanks to everyone who came to the Vortex to see us and Big Cat on Saturday. We had a great time, and the audience was lovely and fluffy and wonderful.

I was able to capture some video footage of the set. Here it is, you lucky people.
